Chris Says: Religion drives politics and they are hard to separate.

Nate Says: There is some overlap, but many political issues are unrelated to religion.

i think that there is some connection between religion and and politics and i think that the political system would be better if there was a complete separation but i know that there can probably never be a COMPLETE separation

Religion and politics are an inevitability, the theist identifies his/her entire world view based on the absolutes contained in their religious doctrine. The atheist identifies through whatever world view they personally identify with ( more then likely humanist, but others exist of course ). The problem is that any world view contains a certain element of bias, its better to have a completely unbiased system of government to truly remain neutral on the issue. ( no crosses, 10 commandments etc etc ). I'll point out that a removal of any religious symbolism is not a bias towards atheism, the government has no right in stating there is or is not a god. As for the questions of schools, I've never heard of anyone being restricted from prayer before a test ( provided it doesn't interrupt class ).

I do not want to approach a court and be faced with a symbolic 10 commandments that half of which has little to do with morality or judgement beyond maintaining said gods "rule". Nor would I swear on a bible, which is irrational and contains immoral absolutes that are frankly.. by their nature, evil.

smile.gif wink.gif Omen hits it right on the nail! Our declaring our rights and speaking out against the transcendent- the supernatural and the paranormal- does seem our being uppity to the anaturalists. They cannot stand it that Dawkins and the Amazing Randi not ony have shown the emperor is naked ,but there is in fact no emperor! Anaturalists so resent reason and facts: they prefer faith, the I just say so of credulity. We naturalists show up anaturalism for the hogwash it is.[ See Paul Kurtz's 'The Transcendent Temptation."] dry.gif

Fr. Griggs rests in his Socratic ignorance and humble naturalism. He might be wrong! His defective cortex might impact his posting. Logic is the bane of theists.
